Authorities make arrest in Meigs County shooting

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a Tuesday morning shooting that left a Meigs County man injured but in stable condition.

James Earl Wyatt, 43, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to Meigs County Lt. Investigator Scotty Wiggins. Wyatt was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wiggins said.

Tabitha Townsend told police that Wyatt shot her boyfriend, Jason Daniel Howard, three times following an argument in Howard’s home at 338 Shiloh Road.

Howard and Townsend were in an argument which Wyatt twice tried to break up, Wiggins said. At Howard’s insistence, Wyatt left the house two times only to return each time.

After Wyatt came back for a second time, Townsend said she went to a separate room, then heard more arguing and gunshots from another room.
