Tragic milestone for abortion

Today marks 38 years since a divided U.S. Supreme Court issued one of the worst rulings in its history: the Roe v. Wade decision that struck down most restrictions on abortion, the killing of innocent unborn babies.

Tens of millions of American babies’ lives have been snuffed out by abortion in the decades since that Jan. 22, 1973, decision.

The ruling created a “right” to abortion that simply does not exist in the U.S. Constitution.

That so-called “right” even extended to perhaps the most gruesome and horrifying form of the procedure: partial-birth abortion. Partial-birth abortion involves the partial delivery of a baby, after which an incision is made in the infant’s head and its brain is suctioned out.

Congress finally enacted a ban on partial-birth abortion a few years ago, and only by the tightest of margins, 5-4, did the Supreme Court uphold even that very narrow restriction on abortion. Most abortions, tragically, remain legal.

Pro-abortion activists often claim they merely want abortion to be “safe, legal and rare.”

Well, it is legal, but it is certainly not “safe” for the unborn. And it is most assuredly not “rare.”

That is very much to be regretted. Today is a sadly appropriate day to mourn the unconstitutionality of Roe v. Wade as well as the awful consequences that the ruling has brought upon our nation – the deaths of millions of babies.
