Meteorologists are calling for up to 3 inches of snow in some areas Wednesday morning, but don’t expect to be able to scrape together a snowman.
“It’ll probably be a brief time where you can actually see the snow accumulate,” National Weather Service meteorologist Mary Black said Monday evening. “You’re not gonna be able to see it on the ground for much time.”
Black forecasts 1 to 2 inches of snowfall in the downtown Chattanooga area beginning Tuesday night, with as many as 3 inches building up in the higher elevations by the next morning.
Still, Black said predicting this weather system has been particularly difficult, and forecasts could change as the storm approaches.
WRCB-Channel 3 meteorologist Paul Barys said he expects 1 to 2 inches in the higher elevations, with less than 1 inch accumulating in the valleys.
“It’ll come Wednesday morning, first half of the day, pretty much,” he said Monday evening.
Barys said Huntsville, Ala., had put out a winter storm watch, but he expects snow to be fairly minimal because of warm temperatures.
Black said the ground, warmed up by Tuesday sun, should be warm enough to melt most falling snow.
