Calhoun’s Griffith says yes to Tide

Calhoun (Ga.) High School all-state kicker Adam Griffith became the sixth member of Alabama’s 2012 recruiting class when he committed to the Crimson Tide at the program’s Junior Day on Saturday.

Griffith, a three-time Times Free Press Best of Preps first-team selection, kicked 10 field goals this past season, including three over 50 yards, and made 50 of 51 point-after attempts. The strong-legged native of Poland also boomed 43 of 56 kickoffs into the end zone for the Class AA runner-up Yellow Jackets.

He chose the Tide over offers from LSU, Vanderbilt and several smaller schools, and in doing so he proved he doesn’t mind fighting for a job. Alabama will have two seasoned kickers returning next season, junior Jeremy Shelley and sophomore Cade Foster.

“I’m just going to go in there and compete and do my best and see what happens,” Griffith said Saturday night. “I like competition and I know they will let me compete.”
