Wind in the Chattanooga valley is expected to get up to 40 miles per hour by Tuesday night and remain gusty until Wednesday afternoon.
Residents in the higher elevations will experience winds up to 60 miles per hour.
“People are probably more accustomed to 5 or 10 miles per hour winds,” said Derek Eisentrout, National Weather Service spokesperson in Morristown, Tenn.
WRCB-TV Channel 3 meteorologist Paul Barys said it’s going to be breezy, but nothing huge, especially compared to what people are going to get up north. They’re going to have a blizzard there, he said.
Here instead of severe storms it will be more of a high wind advisory, Barys said.
A cold front is expected to hit the region Tuesday night carrying winds from the south. Winds will range from about 40 to 60 miles per hour and decrease on Wednesday afternoon, Eisentrout said.
Temperatures will drop from a high of 57 today to a high of 43 on Wednesday. Temperatures will drop into the mid-20s by Wednesday night. Rain showers are likely Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Drivers in RVs, school buses and other taller vehicles should use caution when driving because their vehicles could catch the wind like a sail, Eisentrout said.
People will see trees in motion. The trees shouldn’t fall down, but people will see them moving back and forth and maybe a few twigs falling, Eisentrout said.
