More spending? Honestly?

How much weaker must our nation’s economy get before we recognize that excessive government spending is the problem, not the solution?

Can anyone rationally claim that the federal government has spent “too little” money over the past few years?

How about the $862 billion stimulus, approved by Congress in 2009? Unemployment, now 9.1 percent, far exceeds the level that the Obama administration told us to expect if only the stimulus passed. The main thing it “stimulated” was the size of government!

There has also been fierce resistance to reining in spending on massive entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare, even though the programs are going broke.

On top of that, Democrats last year passed costly ObamaCare socialized medicine. Weren’t our country’s existing entitlements already in enough trouble? Why should lawmakers ever have so much as considered creating a new one? Don’t they remember how often federal entitlements have proved vastly more expensive than the initial estimates of their costs? Did they just want to roll the dice and hope that this time things would turn out differently, and that ObamaCare would magically be affordable?
