A pedestrian walks south across the Walnut Street bridge in a heavy fog.Chattanooga police say "waves of juveniles" caused a ruckus on the Walnut Street Bridge and around the North Shore on Saturday night, but they say there's no evidence shots were fired, as many callers around Coolidge Park reported that night.
Officers responding to numerous shots fired calls found no evidence of gunplay on the bridge or around the vicinity, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.
Some onlookers told police that they saw children with fireworks. Weary said at this point that is what police are attributing the noise to.
Officers in Coolidge Park that night did report that crowds of juveniles congested the area that night.
Police are reviewing video from cameras in the downtown area to see if there's footage of anything not found by officers working in the area, Weary said.
At Coolidge Park, the curfew is 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for anyone under 18 who isn't with a parent or guardian. That ordinance was created days after a March 19 incident in which shots were fired as police tried to disperse a crowd of more than 300 youths.
