Who golfs? Dennis Woodmore

Dennis Woodmore remembers his first experience with golf as if it were yesterday.

But his first round came in 1968. He also remembers later the shot of a lifetime, even though no one else does.

He scored a hole-in-one on No. 14 at Brown Acres “… about 12 years ago,” he said. “I must have hit a sand wedge. But nobody saw it. I was playing by myself. It was about 5:30, early in the evening.”

The 67-year-old played his first round of golf at Lebanon Country Club during an employee outing just three days before his 25th birthday.

He bought himself a set of clubs as a gift. And on that 25th birthday, he played at Harpeth Hills Golf Course in Nashville.

“I fell in love with it real quick,” Woodmore said. “I was hooked.”

He’s played ever since. He could routinely shoot in the mid-70s at the peak of his golf career, about 20 years ago. He still shoots in the mid-80s.

“Your game doesn’t get better with age,” Woodmore joked.

He still plays as often as possible – three, sometimes four, times a week and especially on Saturdays at Brown Acres.

“It’s a nice public course with professionals who take care of the course and take care of you,” Woodmore said. “Nobody else saw that hole-in-one. But it counts.”
