Several local Democratic Party women are strongly opposed to several laws passed during the previous legislative session.
State Rep. JoAnne Favors, D-Chattanooga, voiced some of those concerns over Republican-sponsored legislation to about 40 members and supports of the Greater Chattanooga Women Democrat’s Club on Tuesday night.
“They were bringing bills that I couldn’t believe anybody with any common sense would pass,” she said. “We did stand there and object to situations that were occurring. We were overruled.”
Though this past legislative session was finished particularly quickly – 39 days of the allotted 90 – Favors was dissatisfied with time constraints. She said she was unable to research bills and debate their merit, and felt defeated over some of the issues she was able to debate.
She vehemently opposed one new law that will require voters to provide photo identification.
