Two upcoming outings with Outdoor Chattanooga offer the choice between pedal and paddle power.
Pedal: First up is a historical bicycle tour at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, starting at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitors Center, 3370 LaFayette Road, Chickamauga, Ga.
Co-sponsored by Friends of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Chattanooga Bicycle Club, the ride will be a leisurely 6 to 8 miles with National Park Service rangers offering a history of the park.
Participants may bring their own bicycles or borrow one from the Outdoor Chattanooga mobile fleet. Helmets are required for all riders 16 and younger and are highly recommended for all riders. To reserve a loaner bicycle, call the Battlefield Visitors Center at 706-866-9241.
Paddle: Some kayaking experience is required for a tour to the mouth of the Nickajack Bat Cave in Marion County on Thursday.
Thousands of endangered gray bats call the cave their home in the summer. Kayakers on this trip will get to watch them emerge for the nightly feeding. The leisurely trip will take place at 6:30 p.m., with some time on the water at dusk and after dark.
