The Gentlemen’s Jazz Quartet will present the last of this season’s Sunset Concerts tonight at 7 at North River Civic Center, 1009 Executive Drive.
The 11-concert series is a popular Friday night showcase for local talent of all genres and ages. Civic Center director Linda Rugina said some acts have become so popular that they return annually and always pack the 150-seat room – Dalton Roberts, Jericho Brass and Choo Choo Kids from Center for Creative Arts, among them.
The Gentlemen’s Jazz Quartet is composed of David Anthony on keyboards, Darrell Kelley on percussion, Vincent Canion on bass and Paul Stone playing tenor sax, according to Anthony. All except Stone also assist with vocals.
“The group has been together for five years. We met through our mutual network of local musicians,” said Anthony.
“We play a style of jazz that is a blend of traditional and contemporary, with a classic soul and rhythm and blues edge.”
In addition to the Sunset Concerts, the quartet has also played at The Palms at Hamilton Place, The Foundry at The Chattanoogan and at Nightfall, he said.
All four musicians are Chattanooga natives who began their musical careers in local venues.
Admission to Sunset Concerts is free.
