Watch out for debris, traffic

Our region’s attractive greenery during this time of year has been hit by weather extremes lately, causing a great deal of tree damage and resulting in a lot of debris in and around some of our streets.

Crews in the region have been hard pressed to keep up with clearing it. As a result, some fallen trees and brush continue to jut into streets.

That means we need to be careful in some places to avoid sideswiping a protruding log or limb or dangerously crowding other traffic in adjacent lanes.

Particularly important in such conditions is driving at a safe speed, which allows for more time to slow down or stop if needed.

That could go a long way toward preventing both injuries and property damage.
