Mountain Arts Community Center is hosting two benefit concerts Friday and Saturday April 8-9 directed at different audiences.
The first is an upscale event featuring a four-course dinner and concert performed by Fletcher Bright and the Dismembered Tennesseans. Hors d’oeuvres are served at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
“We’re trying to create an event to show people the potential of the MACC,” said board member Paul Hendricks.
Signal Mountain High School students Baxter Whittenburg and Logan Whitlow approached the MACC Foundation with the idea for the event. Since the foundation had already planned to organize a similar fundraiser, MACC Foundation consultant Patrick Emanuel said they were enthusiastic about the partnership.
MACC Foundation president and vice-president Buffie and John Harper had recently bid on an evening of Bright’s musical services at an auction for Hosanna House, which they decided to offer to the MACC for the fundraising event.
The $75 tickets to Friday’s event were nearly sold out as of press time, and Emanuel said he had the idea to utilize the items already rented for Friday for a second event.
The Saturday Nite Live Jam will feature three high school and college-aged bands in a more laid-back atmosphere targeted toward young people and families.
“It’s a pain to have to get a baby-sitter and go downtown to hear some music,” said Emanuel. “This is a very family-friendly event and a good opportunity to support young artists on the mountain.
Bands begin at 6:30 p.m. and include Bred, which is composed of SMHS students Whittenburg, Garrett Massman and Clara Beasley. Others are the Local Group and Moonshoes Mumsy.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 17 and under. Snacks, soft drinks, beer and wine will be available for purchase at the event.
