Tyner United Methodist Church is hosting its annual silent auction on Thursday, May 19 at 5:45 p.m. to support the church’s missions fund.
“We have been doing this every year since the funds were raised to support the Katrina disaster victims,” said Terry Keeble, chairman of the mission committee. “The proceeds support our general missions fund for trips. It would be great if we could organize some type of relief plan with the funds for the recent tornado disaster, but nothing is definite yet.”
Dinner will be served by Macaroni Grill at 6 p.m. with live entertainment to follow by Doug Richesin and Beth Burkey. The money raised from the meals is contributed toward the missions fund, as well.
Mission trips have included international destinations such as Haiti and India, as well as local outreach programs, according to Keeble.
“We hope to go back to India next year,” he said. “However, it’s often more affordable to stay in the country and help people, especially since there’s a need to support the local tornado victims.”
Examples of items up for auction include gift certificates, beauty supplies and household items.
Tickets can be purchased at the church for $16 for adults and $10 for children. This price includes dinner.
