A Clay County, N.C., man who went missing last Sunday in Polk County was found Sunday by a group of hunters off Highway 30 by Camp McCroy, a 4-H camp.
A group of hunters found Lonnie Matheson, 47, who told the hunters that he was cold and hungry, according to his brother-in-law, Capt. Melvin Cantrell of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
A Polk County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher said that Matheson was found at about 5:30 p.m., and ambulances were on their way to check him out before releasing him.
Matheson, according to the dispatcher, was camping in the woods, and he wasn’t far away from the highway.
