Obama’s new ‘stimulus’ bill rightly defeated

It is obvious that the American people need lots more jobs.

But when the U.S. Senate considered President Barack Obama’s latest $447 billion “stimulus” bill, not that many senators thought it was a good idea. It was, after all, a smaller version of the earlier, failed $862 billion stimulus — plus tax increases. So the Democrat plan was defeated.

Now that this bad bill has been brushed aside, it would be wise for Congress to set about reducing the government spending and borrowing that are saddling our nation with catastrophic debt and interest. If we don’t get the debt under control, it will eventually force our nation into massive, job-killing tax hikes.

There is no fast, easy path to job creation. But doubling down on failed big-government policies surely won’t work.
