Man dies from injuries received in Sept. 6 auto accident in Chattanooga

John Eaker, 78, died Sept. 11 from injuries he received in an auto accident on Sept. 6, according to a report from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Police said they had been notified of his death on Monday. Eaker is the 13th recorded fatality of this year, four fewer than last year at this time, the report said.

The police report said Eaker had been traveling in the 6100 block of Shallowford Road when he attempted to turn his vehicle into a private drive across westbound traffic. A 2002 Ford driven by Salvador Sanches hit Eaker, police said.

Eaker was then taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries and was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
