Daisy United Methodist Church is known around Soddy-Daisy as “the church with the flowers,” thanks to the green-thumb members of the congregation. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, they will gather to give some of their bounty away.
The idea, according to lay leader Bill Haley, is “to share the wealth and help beautify the yards of folks around the community.”
In a news release, Haley stressed that this isn’t a plant sale. The church will be giving away flowers, vegetables, herbs and ornamental plants.
Haley said there will be a limit on how many plants one family can take home, but all will be free.
A silent auction also will be taking place, with winners announced at 2 p.m.
“Monetary donations at the plant giveaway will also be gladly accepted,” Haley said, “but are certainly not required.”
Funds raised Saturday will help future community outreach events.
Daisy UMC is at 9508 Dayton Pike, less than a half-mile north of Walmart (take Harrison Lane exit off Corridor J).
