Tyner earns 3-2 win

Tyner is fighting to keep its head above water, but it is a delightful difference for those who have watched Rams baseball over the last decade or so.

The Rams, who haven’t played much more than a dozen games in that span, haven’t had a winning record in years, so their 3-2 victory over Sale Creek on Friday was most welcome. The win, coming in the Varsity Team Sports Hurricane Classic sponsored by East Hamilton, got them to 8-8 for the season.

“It’s improvement. Three years ago, even two years ago, we got run-ruled [by Sale Creek],” Rams coach Mike Davis said.

While his team is in District 6-AA with the likes of East Hamilton, Central, Red Bank and Hixson, Davis is seeing a steady improvement in his team’s approach to the game.

“The kids’ goal is to win the district,” he said. “We’re young. There was only one junior here today, and the rest of them were freshmen and sophomores. I think my goal is to improve every game, and I think a .500 finish would be a good accomplishment this year.”
