Live music, food and a silent auction are on tap Feb. 4 at a dinner to benefit search efforts for two Bryant, Ala., missionaries who went missing in Venezuela in 2009.

According to Associated Press reports around the time they went missing, Bob and Nieba Norton were flying with five others in a small plane when it apparently crashed in dense jungle on Feb. 19, 2009. Bob Norton, 48, was the pilot.

His mother, Nytta Norton, of Bryant, told the AP the plane departed from Carun and apparently went down in bad weather.

Benefit organizer Bob Edwards says the event will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Riegeldale Tavern at 205 Central Ave. in Trion.

“It’s $25 per person, and we are offering grilled steak, chicken or vegetarian lasagna,” Edwards said in a news release. Proceeds will benefit the search team’s next trip to Venezuela to seek the crash site and for development of a search drone the team is building, he said.
