McCallie sophomore Gordon Hulgan became dazed after a fall at home the morning of the Division II East/Middle region tournament.
Coach Tony Meyers feared a concussion and called Hulgan’s mother, who took her son to be checked out. She later reported to Meyers that Hulgan broke a bone in his foot but would still play if he could.
He did. Hulgan shot a 3-over-par 75 while hobbling around the golf course to help McCallie win that championship.
“That was some serious adversity,” Meyers said. “I already had our sixth man ready to go because our fifth guy had a broken finger.”
