All buildings except for housing are currently closed on University of Tennessee at Chattanooga after a power outage, authorities said.

A mass text message was sent out about 8:19 p.m. notifying students and staff about the closure, UTC Emergency Management Specialist Tim Pridemore said. The buildings were evacuated.

Chattanooga Fire Department responded to three reports of people trapped in separate elevators on campus when the power outage occurred, Battalion Chief Steve Swanson said.

The cause of the power outage is still under investigation, Swanson said.
