photo A memorial to Walker County Confederate soldiers stands in front of the Chattooga Academy which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The academy, built in 1836, was in the line of fire during the Battle of LaFayette and General Braxton Bragg planned the Battle of Chickamauga under an oak tree that once stood on the property.

The Chattooga Academy will host a traveling exhibit on Civil War hospitals and medicine beginning Sunday.

The free exhibit, through the end of May, will feature informational banners and items of interest related to the war, according to a news release.

A volunteer will be available to help visitors on Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m., and the academy is open between 8:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday.

The building is at 304 N. Main St. in LaFayette.
