Breath therapist Alexandra Rose of Atlanta will be in Dalton, Ga., on Saturday to lead “Breathwork on the Mountain,” described as “a journey of self-discovery and healing through conscious integrative breathwork.”
Participants may choose between two two-hour sessions: 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. Participants will meet 30 minutes before each session just inside the entrance to the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center parking lot, 2211 Dug Gap Battle Road, to drive the short distance to a scenic overlook on Dug Gap Mountain. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes and should bring a blanket or sleeping bag to sit on.
In addition to her work as a breath therapist, Rose is a reiki master (reiki is a spiritual practice of palm healing) and a practitioner of the emotional freedom technique, a form of counseling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine.
She will guide participants in using a deeper, fuller breath, supported by music designed to elicit a meditative state.
“As adults, we don’t breathe in a healthy, complete manner,” Rose explained. “What psychology refers to as the ‘flight, fight or freeze’ response to stress involves a decrease in the volume of oxygen taken in and an increase in the number of breaths, or a rapid, shallow breath. As we continue to bombard our body with stressful situations, we lose the ability to fully relax, and a variety of illnesses or disease states may ensue. Prevention lies in assisting our body to return to the state to which it would naturally go.”
Her visit to Dalton is presented by Dalton Ghost Tours. Cost is $25 per person, with a limit of 12 participants per time slot. For reservations, call 706-673-7104.
