FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Baylor is in third place chasing second-place Father Ryan, and McCallie’s in fourth tracking the Red Raiders.
With Division II wrestling’s finalists decided, the consolation semifinals could be the difference. The question for these three teams is whether anybody can catch front-runner and pre-tournament favorite Christian Brothers.
The Purple Wave, duals champions two weeks ago, had 218.5 points through Friday’s competition — 30.5 better than Father Ryan. Baylor had 169; McCallie had 166.
Those four had separated themselves greatly from the rest of the field, and none of the four were backing off.
“Second is still a possibility although Ryan had a pretty good round just then,” McCallie coach Mike Newman said following the championship semifinals and a round of consolations.
