Chattanooga defensive tackle Keyon Reed
Muhasibi WakeelUniversity of Tennessee at Chattanooga linebacker Muhasibi Wakeel and defensive end Keyon Reed were arrested after an altercation with UTC police late Sunday night at Boling Apartments.
Wakeel was arrested at 11 p.m. Sunday and charged with assault of a police officer and disorderly conduct -- both are misdemeanors. Reed was arrested early Monday morning and charged with assault of a police officer.
Both were redshirt sophomores in the 2012 season.
According to the UTC arrest report, Reed spent Sunday night at Erlanger hospital, where he received treatment for "any mental issues or overdose." The report stated that Reed had marijuana in his system.
Mocs coach Russ Huesman, who is in Nashville for the American Football Coaches Association convention, is aware of the incident. He said through a UTC spokesman Monday that he would not comment until he had more information. Both players have been suspended indefinitely, pending an investigation.
According to the UTC and Hamilton County arrest reports, campus police were called to Reed's apartment by his girlfriend, who told police that he was "acting strangely" and had locked himself in his bedroom.
Reed eventually stepped outside with the officers and "became very violent and physically resisted officers' attempts" to control him.
When one of the officers attempted to use a taser on Reed, Wakeel "assaulted" the officer "by tackling him and shoving him."
According to the report, Wakeel's interference caused "the entire incident to escalate."
Wakeel played in all 11 games this past season, primarily on special teams. Reed played in five.
Reed also was arrested in September 2011 and charged with domestic assault. He missed three games while suspended before the charges were dropped.
