Gas crews rush to stop small leak on Walnut Street in Chattanooga

photo Streets are blocked off as firefighters and law enforcement personnel check out the gas leak.

Chattanooga Gas crews worked quickly to repair a gas leak at 200 Walnut St. on Monday after construction crews nicked a gas line while working on a new building just before 9:30 a.m.

Chattanooga firefighters evacuated the Little Miss Mag Daycare, just down the street from the construction site.

Paul Leath, director of community affairs for Chattanooga Gas, said first responders were on the scene by 9:38 a.m. and had shut the gas off shortly after 11:30 a.m. By 12:15, the leak was completely repaired, he said.

“Everything should be good to go,” Leath said. “These kinds of incidents are not very common, and that’s the way we like it.”
