Look, we don’t blame you for taking advantage of the beach scenery for peaceful vacation running. But if you’ve never run on the beach before, it’s not all guts and glory. Shoes fill with sand and the humidity is something awful. If you think Chariots of Fire made it look way too awesome, we can help.
When to run?
Do this: Running within two hours of low tide is the way to go, as there’ll be more space on the beach for you to stride. The tide recedes, leaving packed sand behind, which is more forgiving on the body. If running higher up on the shore, the soft sand is harder to power through-but can make
a good workout.
Don’t do this: Running between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. is not a good idea. If you’re at a beach, it’s likely pretty hot and the sun also reflects off the sand and water.
