A Very Merry Organized Christmas

The Christmas season can be stressful-the combination of impending houseguests and gift lists to be filled can seriously detract from your holiday cheer. To make the art of gift-giving less of a hassle, try these tips for creating a designated gift wrapping station in your home.

What you need:

• Over-the-door shelving (you can usually find these in

the kitchen section for pantry storage)

• 6-8 wide-mouth Mason jars

• Command strips, as needed

What you do:

  1. Gather all of your gift wrap, tissue paper, ribbons and other embellishments. Putting all of these items together (rather than spread out under the bed, in the hall closet, etc.) will make wrapping presents less of a chore. Take an inventory of what you have. This is a good time to figure out if you need more gift tags or if you’re low on bows.
  2. Hang your over the- door storage per the instructions in the packaging. Depending on the type of shelf you purchase, you may need to secure the bottom of the shelving to the door with Command strips so it stays put when you open and close the door.
  3. Organize your shelving so that the bottom shelf is far enough away from the shelf above it to fit your rolls of wrapping paper. If you have too many to fit on the shelving, that’s OK. If you have all different colors of wrapping paper, choose a color scheme for your Christmas gifts this year (I chose to go classic with gold, white and silver) and put those on the shelf for easy access.
  4. Put smaller gift wrapping items (ribbons, pompoms, gift tags, etc.) in the Mason jars. Place your ribbon on the shelving according to size. Gift bags/boxes can be tucked next to the gift wrap in the bottom shelf.

Optional: You can also use chalkboard stickers to label the Mason jars, so the labels can be changed with a swipe of an eraser each season.
