Loftis Middle teams up with firefighters

The grounds of Loftis Middle School are being filled with antique and show cars, all to benefit the children of Soddy-Daisy.

The school is holding its second annual Community Day and Car Show Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include the car show, free food and vendors selling jewelry, crafts and more.

New this year, all of the proceeds from the event’s vendor and car registration fees is going to the Dallas Bay Firefighters Christmas Fund, said Loftis Middle principal Brent Eller. The fund benefits children in the community during the holiday season.

“We wanted to bring it a little bit closer to home. We feel in our hearts this is what the immediate community needs,” the school’s Student Resource Officer, Deputy Michael Houston, said. “This will give [kids in the community] dinner and a decent Christmas.”

Eller added that the event also gives LMS students the opportunity to serve their fellow youth in the community, as they will be working the festival. Some of the kids who are benefited by the Community Day may even attend Loftis Middle, said Houston.

“I think there’s a huge need everywhere [for benefits like this],” said Eller. “It’s just really good to give back.”

Inflatables for the kids and live music will round out the entertainment.

“There’s something for everybody to do,” Eller said.

LMS is located at 8611 Columbus Road and can be reached at 843-4749. The vendor registration form can be downloaded at lms.hcde.org.
