There are a million reasons for not doing the things you need to get done. For dual-income families, it can be difficult to find time to wait for the cable man or pick up the dry cleaning. The elderly may have plenty of time but lack the ability or resources to make it to the grocery store.
Longtime Signal Mountain resident Keith Collins is ready to take over those day-to-day tasks that have fallen by the wayside through his business At Your Service.
From taking one’s car to have its emissions tested to driving one’s parents to Florida, Collins takes care of the chores one lacks the time or ability to do.
“What I provide is really up to the individual,” he said. “If people are not certain about what I do, call me and ask me. I’m not afraid to consider anything people have a need for.”
Collins said he has been able to help 90 percent of the people who have called him about his services. If the task is not something he can do, he can typically provide the number of a trustworthy resource who does.
“I’ve got a lot of contacts I’ve developed over the years – people who do just about everything,” he said.
Collins spent 20 years in telecommunications before switching to the retail finance industry, and was laid off from his position about a year and a half ago.
“I’ve always had customer service at the forefront of what I do,” he said, adding that he has always had his handyman work to fall back on.
While his age now prevents him from doing many handyman-type projects, he had the idea to provide personal services after he began caring for his wife’s aging parents. As he balanced their checkbooks, payed bills and took them grocery shopping, he realized that others likely need assistance with such chores as well.
“I’m fitting a hole in a niche nobody’s really doing up here,” said Collins, who gets most of his clients through word of mouth on Signal Mountain.
