Chatham County Line

Bluegrass music may come and go throughout the years within the mainstream realm, but it is a genre of music that has proven that it can and will always stand the test of time. Many bands are influenced by traditional bluegrass, as some try to mirror the greats, while others mix the traditional sound into a more modern twist. Whatever the case, bluegrass is a true American staple that will forever be celebrated.

In its seventh year, The 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival has continued to grow into one of the most anticipated outdoor festivals that comes to the Chattanooga riverfront each year. Mixed with bluegrass greats, up-and-coming newgrass artists and local bluegrass bands, it is hard to find a better way to enjoy an October weekend than by witnessing great bluegrass music for free.

Few bands get invited back for multiple performances at this two-day event, but lucky for Chattanooga, Chatham County Line seems to find their way back to the outdoor stage at Ross’s Landing more than others. Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, these four young men have been penning their own brand of bluegrass music since the late 1990s. With great original songs that are primarily in the vein of bluegrass as far as instrumentation and perfect harmonies, they are also not afraid to mix in different instruments like a harmonica and the pedal steel and break out into a haunting country or Americana- styled song that somehow mixes perfectly into their repertoire.

With five studio albums under their belt, their latest 2012 release under the influential North Carolina-based Yep Roc Records label celebrates some of their most popular songs throughout the years from a live performance around one mic on the stage of a downtown Raleigh theatre and packaged together in the live album Sight & Sound. Performing at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 at The 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival, witness the sights and sounds of Chatham County Line for yourself, and see why they keep coming back.
