St. Augustine celebrates 75th anniversary

St. Augustine Catholic Church is celebrating 75 years on Signal Mountain with three days of events Nov. 1-3.

“It’s a great opportunity for fellowship and worship,” said Mary Bach, chairperson of St. Augustine’s parish council. “We have a whole weekend full of opportunities to celebrate.”

The festivities begin Friday with All Saints’ Day Mass at 6 p.m. followed by an inspirational talk by sister Mary Timothea Elliott titled “Called to be Saints: The Universal Call to Holiness.”

On Saturday the church is holding an All Souls’ Day Mass at 8 a.m. followed by prayers for the parish’s departed brothers and sisters in the parish columbarium.

Sister Elliott is leading a discussion on the topic of “Intentional Discipleship: The Work of the Parish” at 9:30 a.m.

Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, when His Excellency the Most Rev. Richard F. Stika, bishop of the Diocese of Knoxville, will dedicate the church’s new education and multipurpose building as well as the outdoor Stations of the Cross.
