Sometimes what you’re searching for is right under your nose — but you don’t realize it until it’s gone.
That’s part of the plot in ” ‘Til Beth Do Us Part,” the farce by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten that will be presented in six performances at the Oak Street Playhouse inside First-Centenary United Methodist Church.
“This is a farce about controlling, manipulative people, which means you have a lot of exaggerated things happen. It’s like real life on steroids,” jokes Mike Tulloss, Oak Street Playhouse producer. Brenda Schwab is directing the comedy.
Patti Gross and Randall Fosse play Suzannah and Gibby Hayden. Suzannah is a career-driven woman who needs more help around the house than she’s getting from Gibby. So she hires Beth Bailey, played by Kendra Gross, who proves to be a gregarious, highly motivated — but conniving — assistant. As Suzannah’s dependence on Beth grows, Beth starts to convince Suzannah that Gibby must go in order to make the household run more efficiently. Gibby’s efforts to stop Beth’s manipulation peak just as Suzannah’s boss arrives for an important dinner.
