As its culminating project, the MACC’s Acting for Kids class is presenting “Have a Heart, Be a Star.” Shows are Thursday and Friday, April 24-25 at 7 p.m. both days; Saturday, April 26 at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m., all at the MACC.
The futuristic play is set in a scientific outpost on another planet where new kid Jeff Goodheart arrives from Earth. Most of the kids at the outpost know stories about Earth but have never been there, said director Colleen Laliberte. Jeff has a hard time fitting in.
“The theme is that everyone has a special talent and everyone is a star,” Laliberte said. “If you really look at who people are on the inside, you realize everyone is the same and you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.”
Laliberte said she first did the play in the early ’90s and it is one of her favorites.
“It’s a great show for elementary and middle school students just getting an introduction to theater,” she said. “I spend a lot of time trying to find plays for kids that are ensemble plays.”
The play features 19 actors ranging in age from 5-12 who attend six different schools, said Laliberte.
Tickets are $5.
