The MACC is holding its annual tree lighting event Saturday, Dec. 6 from 5-7:30 p.m. MACC Executive Director Barb Storm said in the time she has been at the local community center, the event has grown from 150 attendees to more than 700 last year.
“It’s one of the biggest events we do all year,” she said. “It’s just so much family fun, with something for every age to do. It’s a good old-fashioned community Christmas event.”
Performers this year include the Nolan choir, Signal Mountain Presbyterian’s Westminster Singers, and the local elementary and middle/high schools’ strings players, said Storm. Local composer Michael Huseman will lead a community Christmas carol sing-along, and a preview of “Wonderland” will be presented.
In addition to the performances in the auditorium, two areas have been added where students and teachers will be performing Christmas songs, said Storm.
Face painting and tattoos are new additions to this year’s event, as well as nature crafts, she said.
“Instead of being in a classroom, this year Santa will be in the cafeteria,” Storm said, adding that balloon artist Patricia Balloona will be decorating the visiting and waiting areas with her elaborate balloon art. “She had so much fun last year, she agreed to do it again this year.”
Vendors such as Mountain Top Toys, Mark Johnson of Tiger-Rock Martial Arts, Olive Chattanooga, Mayfly Coffee and Barefoot Bandits will be set up at the event with items for sale.
The actual lighting of the tree will take place at 7:15 p.m.
The MACC is at 809 Kentucky Ave. and can be reached at 886-1959.
