McCallie coach Greg Payne and his son, shortstop Tyler Payne, have been named the coach and player of the year for the 2014 season by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association. Tyler earned all-state honors as a junior in helping McCallie to its first state baseball championship since 1976. He led the state in stolen bases (49) and hit .349 while scoring 39 runs and winning five games and saving two as a pitcher. He recently signed scholarship papers with Lee University.
