ATLANTA (AP) – Dozens of peaceful protesters gathered in downtown Atlanta to protest a New York City grand jury’s decision not to indict a white police officer in the videotaped chokehold death of an unarmed black man.

Atlanta Police spokesman Officer John Chafee said no arrests, injuries or damage had been reported as a result of Wednesday night’s protests.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that some of the protesters lay down in the street as part of a “die-in” while others carried signs reading “Black Lives Matter” and “Listen to the people cry.”

Earlier Wednesday, a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in the July 17 death of Eric Garner.

The case has drawn comparisons to the fatal police shooting of unarmed black teen Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in August. A grand jury in that case also decided not to indict a white officer.
