A house converted into two apartments was seared by a structure fire just before 3 p.m. on Friday, after food left unattended on a stove erupted into a conflagration that was quickly contained by firefighters.
Smoke was already pouring from the building when firefighters arrived on scene, according to Captain Chris Fryar with Engine 15, and the flames did about $10,000 in damage to the home before they were extinguished.
The fire displayed four people, two of whom were checked out by paramedics but were not taken to the hospital, Fryar said.
The blaze at 508 Tunnel Blvd, which firefighters said was an accident, damaged the home’s wiring and power to the building was disconnected, forcing the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee to provide assistance to the four people displaced by the accident.
