The Tennessee Board of Regents released its much-anticipated review of Chattanooga State Community College Monday evening.
The audit concluded that Catanzaro broke a slew of policies in his hiring of Chief Innovations Officer Lisa Haynes. The president has come under fire for his hiring and subsequent promotion of Haynes, whom he met while vacationing in her native Barbados. Faculty were outraged when it was revealed she was hired for a top job without having earned a required bachelor’s degree.
TBR auditors concluded that the college appeared to create a position especially for her, ignoring rules designed to ensure a fair and open hiring process. The audit found that the college failed to verify her degree status, failed to verify her purported previous business success and avoided TBR oversight by failing to send her hiring to the chancellor for approval.
