Eye on the left: Partisan molder of minds

What passes for higher education

Think your college students won’t get a little indoctrination in their publicly funded university?

Susan J. Douglas, chairwoman of communication studies at the University of Michigan, has an opinion, and she doesn’t mind if her students or anyone know it: She hates Republicans.

“I hate Republicans,” she wrote in an article titled “It’s Okay to Hate Republicans” for the union-backed progressive news magazine These Times. “I can’t stand the thought of having to spend the next two years watching … any of the legions of … blowhards denying climate change, thwarting immigration reform or championing fetal ‘personhood.'”

Douglas, penner of such works as “The Mommy Myth: The Idealization of Motherhood and How it Undermines Women” and “Enlightened Sexism: The Seductive Message That Feminism’s Work Is Done,” is at least honest enough to realize a bit of her hypocrisy.
