One never gets too old to enjoy a nice warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold day, but as an adult, there is no reason to settle for the powdered stuff with mini-marshmallows. Sipping chocolate provides a much more sophisticated experience without sacrificing satisfaction. Plus, for February, sipping chocolate offers a fun alternative to the trusty heart-shaped box for that special someone.
Hot Chocolatier owner Wendy Buckner says the company’s original sipping chocolate is made with high-quality grated dark chocolate, the same blend of French and Swiss chocolates she uses for truffles, along with a bit of cocoa powder. The grated chocolate is cooked on the stove with milk whisked in for a thick, intense shot of chocolate. Add in more milk for more traditional hot chocolate, she says. Hot Chocolatier also offers “The Hottie” sipping chocolate with the added spice of ancho, cayenne and chipotle peppers.
Buckner says she has a few customers who have told her they add even more pizazz to their sipping chocolate with a shot of whisky or rum. “I think if we had a liquor license, it would go over really well,” she says of spiked sipping chocolate.
