Hazes, soCro and Waterfall Wash at J.J.’s Bohemia – Friday, 10 p.m.

What’s desirable about the show at J.J.’s tonight is its variety (within the realm of the usual J.J.’s crowd). Local five piece “shoe gaze” group Hazes blends together poppy beats with incoherent, sensitive lyrics that are guaranteed to have everyone in the room lost in a private muse. Youthful, sensitive Waterfall Wash comes from Nashville with earnest, unpolished vocals layered over fast-paced rock and roll, which might lift the mood in the room. And soCro – short for Southern Croat – raps over a fusion of Southern hip hop fused and European dance beats. Even if white rappers aren’t your thing, this self-made underdog demands attention. He opened up for rapper Big Boi at Track 29 in September, a feat he accomplished through relentless Tweeting, a promotional video and badgering the rapper himself on Reddit until he said yes. He is now running a Kickstarter campaign to help him launch his album.

Bike Walk Chattanooga Public Meeting – Saturday, 1 p.m.

Last month’s attack on a local cyclist sparked a city-wide conversation about Chattanooga’s attitudes and policies toward cyclists, and ignited outrage from bikers nationally. Bike Walk Chattanooga is an advocacy group in the making with the hopes of organizing a bike-friendly movement in town. For this meeting, the fledgling group is hosting Bike Walk Tennessee’s president, Anthony Siracusa, and a discussion will follow. If you’re a biker, an activist, or even a wannabe cyclist, this is a chance to join the conversation and hop on the movement.

In case you haven’t kept up with the recent bike buzz:

Baby It’s Cold Outside Party at Flying Squirrel – Saturday, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.

Ok, so the forecast for Saturday morning predicts a high of 51º. But though the worst of the Polar Vortex is behind us (fingers crossed), our Southern blood is still a little shell-shocked. The Flying Squirrel is throwing a party featuring DJ Bataille on Saturday night with no cover charge. Maybe he’ll play his Summer Mix to remind us of warmer times.
