Thanks to a grant from Target, award-winning children’s author and poet Jeff Nathan is coming to Nolan Elementary Tuesday, Feb. 25. He will spend the day engaging in age-appropriate activities with all grade levels and then hold an evening event open to the public from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
“It’s a chance to see literature come alive in the form of poetry and songs,” Nathan said of the evening program, which is titled “The Silly Laughing Musical Fun Show.” “The kids get so excited by the daytime program that they drag their families back in.”
Principal Shane Harwood said that from the reviews he has read about Nathan’s presentations, he expects the program to be highly engaging, educational and purposeful.
“It’s a good time to spend with family at the school with a fun night related to learning,” Harwood said.
Nathan said he will be teaching kids and parents a fun game they can play on long car rides or while waiting at the doctor’s office. A contest between the kids and adults in attendance is also planned. He will select one student to squirt him with water while he sings about – what else? – being squirted with water.
