I must admit that when I first began researching RMJ Tactical, I had to wonder why a person would ever need a $400 tomahawk.
After spending the morning with company founders Ryan Johnson and Richard Carmack, I felt differently. I mean, I still couldn’t afford one of the military-grade weapons, but suddenly, I wanted one.
RMJ Tactical specializes in the design and manufacture of extreme tools. Johnson, president of the company, has a background in blacksmithing and engineering while Carmack, vice president, has an aptitude for handling day-to-day business and making pithy comments. “And eating lunch,” Carmack adds.
RMJ tomahawks are designed using concepts that are 300 years old. “We don’t deviate from some of those philosophies,” says Johnson, who knows all about sticking with what works. Johnson’s passion for weaponry has been nearly lifelong.
“As a kid I dressed up like an Indian and was running through the woods with a machete strapped to my back,” says Johnson. “We lived out in the country and my parents let me collect weapons- bows and cross bows-at an early age. I was throwing hatchets by the time I was seven.”
