An art showcase of work by Signal Mountain High School student Temple Glascock will be held at the MACC in conjunction with the opening of “The Little Mermaid” Friday, June 13 from 5-7:30 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser for Temple, a rising senior, to attend an intensive art portfolio enhancement opportunity at Virginia Commonwealth University this summer.

The three-week intensive session will allow Temple to work on her college application portfolio for visual art, said Susan Parks, Temple’s former art teacher who is organizing the fundraiser.

“Temple will probably be the first from SMHS to receive an art scholarship,” said Parks. “She was one of my best students.”

The program cost is $2,995, which includes room, board, training and resources.

Her family is able to contribute about half of that amount, and Temple has been able to raise about $400 herself. She needs to come up with the rest before the program starts July 13.

Refreshments will be served during the art showcase, where there will be a money tree for people to hang donations.

“It will be a fun social event with food and music and art,” said Parks. “You can stop by and wish her good luck and get behind the effort to get her work out there.”

Donors will receive a printed thank-you card featuring Temple’s original artwork.
