LaFayette’s Williamson has healing touch

Stress hides in the shoulders and neck, moving down the spine to the lower back.

Getting a back massage can improve circulation, relax the muscles, improve sleep, boost white blood cell counts and relieve headaches, said Angie Williamson. She operates Angie’s Massage Therapy in LaFayette.

“There are more benefits to massage than one might think. It decreases stress and improves your overall health,” she said.

She is ready to provide a healing touch of relaxation.

“Sometimes, touch is a matter of life and death,” Williamson said. “Touch is so important.”

For example, she said in China there was an overpopulation of girls and many ended up in orphanages. Nurses would go in, feed them, change them and lay them back down, but not interact with them. Many of them died, she said, adding that many survivors were slow learners.

“There’s healing with touch,” Williamson reiterated.

One big benefit is that massage releases toxins from the body that could cause sickness, she said. That’s why people should drink water after a massage, she added.

Williamson personally had never received a massage until she went to school to learn the art. She visited a day spa in Atlanta, but said she felt like another number. She vowed to bring a more personal touch to massage and to find out the client’s needs and put the client first.

“Sometimes I have two clients in a day and other times I have seven clients in a day,” she said.

Launching her business 13 years ago, Williamson moved her operation inside City Club Fitness Center 11 years ago.

“My husband is the reason I wanted to go into massage therapy,” she said. “He was a lieutenant over investigations at the Summerville Police Department. He would come home with migraines. He told me to go back to school and suggested massage because it really helped him.”

Williamson works in LaFayette Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday by appointment. She works in Summerville on Wednesdays. She is a licensed neuromuscular therapist, in addition to a licensed massage therapist.
