District 7 outvotes others in primary election

Residents in District 7 cast more ballots than any other in the recent Hamilton County primary.

On Election Day, approximately 3,800 District 7 residents took to the polls to vote – primarily in the highly contested Hamilton County Commission Republican primary for the district. Versus the 441 Democrats who voted in that race, 3,357 Republicans cast ballots.

Republican Sabrena Turner beat out fellow Republicans Perry Perkins and Phil Smartt, taking 58 percent of the vote, and Democrat Ezra Maize beat out fellow Democrat Don Brown with 54 percent of the vote. Turner and Maize will go head to head in the August election.

“Stay tuned and we’ll see what happens in August,” said Turner, who garnered 1,966 votes to Maize’s 238 during the primary. “I was honestly very humbled and amazed at the results. I canvased for 14 weeks and did a whole lot of praying.”

Longtime and current District 7 County Commissioner Larry Henry, a Republican, who also serves as the Commission’s chairman, ran and won the primary race for Hamilton County Circuit Court Clerk. He will be unopposed on August’s ballot.

In District 8, incumbent Republican candidate Tim Boyd beat out challengers Curtis Adams and Brent Lambert. He will run against Democrat Kenny Smith in August.

District 9, incumbent Republican Chester Bankston and Democrat Melinda Bone were both unopposed in the primary. Both their names will both appear on the August ballot.
