MACC cancels string camp

MACC has cancelled its fifth annual string camp due to low enrollment, but plans are to offer several strings-related activities during the time string camp was set to occur.

“Budget-wise, it was a decision we had to make,” MACC Director Barb Storm said of the cancellation. “To hire a first-rate staff and faculty, we just didn’t have enough to cover it with the amount of registrations we had.”

She said the camp has had fairly low enrollment for the past three years, with the first year being the only one that turned a big profit. She said this was probably because it was a novelty the first year.

“Having Robert Bernhardt as the director was certainly a good draw,” she added.

Storm said next year, the MACC would like to revamp its string camp and she plans to meet with the parents of strings students as well as strings teachers on the mountain to discuss their needs.
