Collegedale Library kicks off summer reading program

photo Collegedale librarian gets in the “Fizz Boom Read!” spirit with her lab coat and special test tubes. Fizz Boom Read! is the library’s summer reading theme.

It’s larger than any book club you’ve ever been a part of.

Last year, 635 local readers completed the Collegedale Library’s summer reading program, making it the program with the most participation per capita for a library its size in the state of Tennessee.

This year, the local library staff is hoping for even more participants in the free program, which runs May 27-July 31.

“We’ve got a lot to offer,” said librarian Gina Mullins. “It can start a habit of lifelong learning and reading.”

To qualify for the first round of prizes, which includes a reader reward bag and free book for kids or a small gift for adults, participants must read 20 minutes a day for 15 days during the program’s duration. Anyone who completes that requirement will also have their name entered into drawings at the end of the program for gift cards, free passes to area attractions and the grand prize for each age group – an e-reader.
